The Bilingual WebZine of ART and CULTURE – Il Webzine dell'ARTE e della CULTURA

Of all the life lessons that Angela taught us on our short visit to Italy, what I find myself thinking back to had to do with the true appreciation of art. As we sat waiting to enter the “body temperature regulation” room for the Scrovegni Chapel, Angela made it a point to tell us to look at the artwork as if we were viewing it in the time it was first created. I took her advice and have to admit that I had a deeper appreciation of the paintings in this Chapel than I had of any other artwork I had previously seen in Italy.

It doesn’t just have to be about paintings and scultures either. It can be about architecture, or food, or anything else that makes Italy the beautiful country that it is. I believe that stepping back to really take in the history of what is before you will bring about an entirely different understanding of the culture. It is what makes the difference between a tourist with a camera and a traveler with a passion.
